Users Coming Off Slimming Jabs Regain Weight Far More Rapidly Than Dieters

Weight management often requires ongoing approaches.

Fresh analysis reveals that people who come off popular slimming jabs like Mounjaro or Wegovy can put back on shed pounds much more quickly than those who end conventional lifestyle plans.

Published data in a major health publication shows that while obese people can lose about a fifth of their total mass while undergoing treatment, the weight returns at an estimated rate of nearly a kilo each month once they quit.

"Individuals buying such medications need to be aware of the danger of fast weight regain when the medication concludes," warns researcher Dr. Susan Jebb.

That rate of regain means a reversion to original mass within about a year and a half.

Analyzing Treatments

The analysis, which looked at 37 of studies involving thousands of patients, compared the results of these new drugs with older methods.

The team note that individuals who shed pounds through lifestyle changes alone usually experience a more gradual creep back—approximately 100 grams monthly—once they finish.

Understanding the Fast Rebound

Doctors propose the mechanism of the drugs accounts for the amplified weight return.

These medications copy a body's own chemical called GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite.

"Long-term administration of the hormone concentrations far above than normal could lead to the body to generate a reduced amount of its own natural hormone, and may also lessen sensitivity to its actions," explained Dr. Adam Collins, a nutrition expert.

"Discontinuation of this GLP-1 'fix' results in appetite is no longer kept in check, making excessive eating a significant risk."

A Chronic Condition?

The NHS advise the injections for individuals with obesity-related health risks, accompanied by recommended diet and exercise modifications.

A number of clinicians contend that, due to the likelihood of weight regain, the therapy might need to be long-term.

This opinion is reinforced by drug manufacturers, who say that the findings "underscore the long-term character of obesity," similar to managing diseases like hypertension.

User Experiences

People who have come off the jabs describe a sudden return of cravings.

"I experienced something activating and you become extremely hungry," said an individual.

This difficulty is worsened if users have not developed permanent lifestyle or habit modifications during therapy.

Widespread Adoption

Figures suggest that a significant number of adults in the UK have tried these injections in the last 12 months, with interest being substantial.

  • Adoption is more common among females compared to males.
  • The middle-aged age group shows the highest usage rates.
  • A large proportion access the medications through private healthcare rather than the NHS.

Ultimately, researchers caution that while these medications are effective tools for shedding pounds, they are not a permanent cure and maintained weight loss hinges on integrated lifestyle management.
